Chinyunyu Hot Springs

This week's Let's Explore show was packed with Adventure. Our crew headed East to the Chinyunyu Hot springs to record our Let's Explore Show there. The Chinyunyu is round about two hours away from Lusaka. Located in the Rufunsa District, just a few minutes from Chongwe Market is this amazing site.

On our way there, we met a lovely German couple who are driving through Zambia on their tour of Southern Africa. There next stop is Malawi. The couple was driving a mercedes benz truck which has a kitchen (fitted with a gas stove), water from taps, toilets and of course beds for them to spend their night. We had the privilege of interviewing this couple and we took some pictures with them.

We finally got to the Chinyunyu Hot springs and there we got to meet the site caretaker who told us about the Hot springs. People go there to wash in the water as they believe that touching this water will cleanse them of all their troubles, people also go there for prayer as they believe that this site is a gift from God. We also got to see some kids walk through this very hot water and when we asked them how they could do that, they said that they go there everyday to practice. The water from the Hot springs flows into the nearby Chibuyu Street. The water comes from the ground and is as hot as a cup of coffee(metaphorically). The charges are only K8 for Zambian Adults and K4 for Zambian Children. It is a must see. So go ahead, plan your trip to the Chinyunyu Hot Springs.

Mailoni Brothers

Good morning, it is such a beautiful day in the Capital city of Zambia – Lusaka. The sun is shining bright and the sky is blue. As usual, Tuesday is always an interesting day for Zambia Tourism Agency as this is the day that we host our Let’s Explore Show on ZNBC at 18:15hours. On Today’s show we talk to Charity Salasini (Director - Copperbelt Museum) and Kunda Mulenga Mbewe (Tourism Promotion Officer – ZTA). We also have featured interviews from Mweembe Sikaulu (Communications and Brand Manager – Zambia Airports Corporation) and also from the man in charge of the construction of the KK international Airport.

Charity Salasini (Director - Copperbelt Museum) will be with us in Studio telling us about the Mailoni brothers as a Tourism attraction. These brothers were murderers and had terrorized people in the central province of Zambia. They attacked everyone they came into contact with and killed many in the process, some of the weapons they used included axes, spears and catapults. Four of these brothers were eventually killed and one of them abandoned his brothers because he did not want to be involved. Charity Salasini will be explaining what she found as she went through the trails of the Mailoni brothers.

Kulamba and Likumbi Lya Mize

Saturday 27th August, 2016 will be a very interesting day for Zambia in the North-Western and Eastern provinces of Zambia. This is because there will be two traditional ceremonies being held on that very day. Both ceremonies are all very big and colorful, they are characterized by dances, singing and paying homage to their respective paramount chiefs.

The Likumbi Lya Mize is the official traditional ceremony of the Luvale people of the Zambezi are in Zambia. The ceremony is a platform in which the Luvale people pay homage and show loyalty to their paramount chief. At this ceremony, one can catch a glimpse of the makishi dancers who display colorful and energetic dances. These dancers are always masked and never review their identity.

The Kulamba traditional ceremony is the ceremony of the Chewa people and it is held every August in Katete. This ceremony is not to be confused with the Kulamba Kubwalo traditional ceremony which is the traditional ceremony of the Lenje. The Kulamba is famous for the nyau dancers that are always in attendance. This is a very big ceremony as it is celebrated by the Chewa people of not only Eastern Zambia but also the Chewa of Malawi and Mozambique.

The Pamodzi Carnival is also right around the corner, this Carnival starts at the woodlands stadium goes through Burma Road, onto Cairo road joining Great east road and ending at the Lusaka show grounds. There will be a lot of activities which include a food festival and various dances. The date for the carnival is 24th September, 2016.
